| The New Zealand Superbike Championship has taken a positive step forward this year with the confirmation of a four-round 2025 series with dates and venues already being considered for the next three years.
The 2025 NZSBK schedule is:
February 7-8-9: Burt Munro Challenge, Teretonga, Invercargill;
February 13-14-15: SuperMoto (including NZGP Titles), Levels, Timaru;
March 7-8-9: MotoFest (including NZTT Titles), Hampton Downs, Auckland;
March 14-15-16: MotoMania, Taupo Motorsport Park, Taupo.
MNZ are working closely with the Promotor and a group of Motorcycle Road Race committed stakeholders to ensure the series is foundationally strong for the next few years.
MNZ have been fortunate to align with the Burt Munro Organisation and more recently the Capture Events Team, in association with the Tony Quinn Organisation, to run at least three meetings, including the support of the second round at Levels in Timaru.
As a Road Race Commission Team it is vitally important we ensure the longevity of the sport and look to how we best support the championship. Longevity plus strong relationships and funding is key to the sustainability and growth of the series.
This coming season will see the inaugural Trans-Tasman Challenge. Our own home-grown talent dicing in our back yard with the Australian Teams. The initial first two rounds are to set the NZ Team who will then engage with our Australian counterparts in the subsequent Hampton Downs and Taupo Rounds.
There has and is still a huge amount of work going on in the background to bring this opportunity together with some large commitments from sponsors and supporters.
As the series grows over the coming years, we foresee some evolution of the series and it’s format as an exciting opportunity unfolds.
One element to this evolution is the ongoing maintenance of the grass roots interface with our clubs, essentially working on how all stakeholders can have a ‘Win/Win’ as we embark on this journey.
We actively encourage all interested parties involved in Motorcycle Road Racing where applicable to contact the Road Race Commission, if they wish to be involved commercially. Our sport is too small to exist in isolation, and we want as much stakeholder participation as possible, to share in the success.
MNZ and the commission are fully aware that in the last few years there have been financial losses, this opportunity sets a great foundation for our Championship Series with long term vision and investment from some large organisations. We are very fortunate, we believe, to be in this very positive place.
Classes will remain the same as last year with the exception of the F3/Superlite group where we are working through how this might be structured to create another competitive class; we will share this information in the next week or so.
One final comment is a shout out to the Pro Twin riders and how they have rallied. Through some dedicated and focused communication this class now sits with at least 18 bikes committed to our championship. Let’s go and encourage more of the same in our other classes.
