In an unprecedented moment for Motorcycling New Zealand, a women’s team is gearing up to represent New Zealand at the upcoming ISDE, the oldest “off-road” motorcycle event on the FIM calendar, to be held in Santiago de Compostela in Spain from the 14 to 19 October 2024.
This marks that first time that a Women’s representative team of this level has been sent from New Zealand, symbolising not just a sporting achievement, but also a shift towards gender equality in sport.

The team, composes of skilled riders from diverse backgrounds have been training rigorously over the past year.  Their preparation includes extensive training, practice of changing tyres, and participation in National and International competition.  Each rider has not only honed their skills but also formed a strong camaraderie that promises to be their backbone at the gruelling event over six days.

The team is:

Rachel Archer;  Rachel currently lives in the USA and races professionally.

Kylie Dorr; Kylie is the 2023 & 2024 New Zealand Women’s Enduro Champion, and is also leading the points in the hard enduro Championship

Taylar Rampton;  Taylar is a former 2 times New Zealand Women’s Motocross Champion

To assist the team to attend this event, support from Motorcycling New Zealand through the Women’s Commission has been provided.  This initiative aims to promote women’s sports at all levels, ensuring that our Women athletes receive the resources and support they need to thrive.  “The support from Motorcycling New Zealand has been invaluable for us.  Their commitment not only provides essential financial backing but also signifies the endorsement of our governing body.  This support complements our individual sponsorships and the backing from our team sponsors strengthening our journey as a whole ” said competitor and team captain Kylie Dorr.  “This funding is giving crucial support and clearly demonstrates that women’s sports are being prioritised and recognised for their importance” said Rebecca Murray, the Motorcycling New Zealand Women’s Commissioner.

The riders have also had their own community support, with local businesses behind the team, providing sponsorship and organising fundraising events to help towards costs.   The team represents hope and inspiration for many girls in our country.  Seeing women compete at this level encourages the next generation to chase their dreams, no matter the obstacles.

As the team sets their sights on the event, they carry with them the hopes and dreams of countless women and girls back home.  Regardless of the outcome, their journey will pave the way for future competitors.  With the backing of the Women’s Commission and the unwavering support of their community, this team is ready to make history.
