FIM Introduces New Mentoring Programme in Collaboration with Motorcycling Australia

08 November 2024 | All News

The FIM is proud to present the latest FIM Mentoring Programme launched in August, a three-year project in New Zealand to support Motorcycling New Zealand Inc (MNZ) to reach their identified objectives.

The mentor selected for the programme is Motorcycling Australia (MA), with three representatives having already visited MNZ:
• Tom Williams – MA National Chief Track Inspector
• Peter Smith – MA Chief Training Officer
• Peter Doyle – MA CEO

In its first year, the Motorcycling Australia & MNZ Track Standards Training Programme, which has been conducted under the FIM Mentor Programme, has proved to be highly successful. With support from the FIM, MA provided training resources and expert personnel to help MNZ develop and implement track standards for their official races. Motorcycling New Zealand Inc (MNZ) gave positive feedback, highlighting the benefits of this structured mentorship.

The programme included both the pre-development of essential documents and standards, as well as practical onsite training sessions in New Zealand. These sessions were led by Motorcycling Australia’s experienced professionals in track safety and inspections, ensuring that the best practices were shared and implemented.

Peter Doyle, CEO of Motorcycling Australia, confirmed the importance of this initiative: “This mentorship project reflects our commitment to improving the safety and quality of motorcycle racing. By partnering with MNZ and leveraging the expertise within Motorcycling Australia, we aim to enhance track standards and share our knowledge globally through the FIM Mentor Programme.”

This project marks the beginning of a continued effort by the FIM to promote high standards across its member federations, with future plans to expand the mentorship programme.
