Frances Scammell first became involved in motorcycle sport when her sons Daryl, Malcolm & Brent started motocross over 40 years ago and it wasn’t long before she was helping at various events alongside her late husband, Bruce Scammell.

Frances started off helping with lap scoring – concentrating on recording the bikes zooming past was a good way to distract her from her son’s motocross racing! She has held numerous race-day & event-related roles over the years – even completing her officials training in 2011.

As a life member of the Gore & Districts Motorcycle Club, she served 35 years on the committee, where she has been secretary and treasurer over that time.

Frances was awarded a Queens Service Medal in 2017 for her services to the community, where she has given her time to a number of organisations – not just motorcycling. At the time she is quoted as saying “being involved with groups like the motorcycle club keeps me in touch with the younger generation. I’m grateful to be able to stay active.”

Frances was made a life member in 2011, at the same time as her late husband, Bruce Scammell.
