2024 NZ Trials Open Review

17 December 2024 | All News, Trial

The 2024 NZ Experts open, held on Saturday December 14th, was a resounding success, especially considering the short notice and the challenges of scheduling at a busy time of year. A huge thank you goes to the Ixion Motorcycle Club Wellington for hosting the event and to Steve Wade (Ixion President) Wayne Furniss (North Island Coordinator), and the many others who worked tirelessly to set sections and assist with observing on the day. The effort and dedication poured into the event were evident, and it truly paid off.

The day showcased some of New Zealand’s top riders delivering outstanding performances. It was an exciting opportunity to see how different formats can challenge riders and encourage them to adapt their approach. The 16 sections were creatively designed, beginning with man-made obstacles before transitioning into natural terrain featuring native bush and rocky creeks, providing a varied and thrilling challenge throughout the day.

Results

Expert T1:

  • 1st Place: Matt Foster – Crowned the NZ Expert Victor, Matt delivered an incredible performance with standout scores, making a strong statement as the top rider of the day.
  • 2nd Place: Warren Laugesen – Warren kept Matt honest, riding brilliantly and making sure the top spot didn’t come without a fight.
  • 3rd Place: Stu Lawton – Stu rode with focus and determination, handling the tough sections brilliantly. His consistency earned him a well-deserved podium finish.

Expert T2:

  •      1st Place: Zack Furniss – Zack turned up the heat and made it clear he’s gunning for the big leagues, taking the win with flair.
  •      2nd Place: Byron Adlam – Returning to competition after a break, Byron overcame a shaky first lap to find his rhythm and deliver a confident ride.
  •      3rd Place: Kevin Pinfold – Kevin proved that age is no excuse for staying off the podium. His technical finesse was as impressive as his energy levels, he came in close 3rd behind Byron.

This event was organised following the cancellation of the NZ Championship in Alexandra, While the Expert Open is typically part of the three-day championship, it has previously been run as a standalone event, and this year’s iteration proved its viability once again.

Thanks to all the riders, organisers, and volunteers for making this event a standout day for New Zealand trials riding.
