With so many dedicated volunteers and clubs delivering outstanding work and hosting exceptional events across the country, selecting the award recipients is never an easy task.  These awards serve as a heartfelt thank you and congratulations to everyone involved.  A special acknowledgement gores to this year’s award recipients for their exception contributions to our sport.

Ken Duncan Memorial Club of the Year

Awarded to the Southland Motorcycle Club, in recognition of their versatility by holding successful events across multiple disciplines throughout the year.  They held a round of the NZSBK Championship in conjunction with the Burt Munro Challenge.  Their proactive approach to safe is evident following a post-accident review from the hill climb, reflecting their commitment to continuous improvement.

Most recently, the Club played an instrumental role in the track inspection process for Motocross, earning praise form the inspectors attending from Australia, for their attention to detail and high standards.

These achievements highlight the clubs leadership, resilience, and unwavering passion for the sport.

Bryan Davidson Memorial Trophy

The South Waikato Club was awarded the Bryan Davidson Memorial Trophy for technology and innovation in 2025. It is the third time the club has been awarded the trophy. They had demonstrated some outstanding features in the last year including electronic access to member to ride their motocross track through an app and payment process. This has raised over $20,000-00 for the club in the first year. They secured large scale funding to purchase machinery including a digger. As the home of supercross in NZ, have reactivated a mini motocross event they have devised over 30 years ago called Minis Under Lights. This is a chance for mini motocross riders to ride the supercross track and under the arena night lighting, just as the junior and senior riders have done in the past. They also hosted the final of the new Battle of the Schools motocross series which has become a major schools events for our junior and mini riders. Another string to their bow is the reactivation of the Kings Birthday Weekend motocross which was one of the biggest 2 day motocross events in the 80’s.

The club is now attracting around 350 riders to their club days and is growing against the trend of declining rider numbers.

Most improved trophy:

The Ixion Motorcycle Club has demonstrated outstanding growth and development over the past year, making them a standout contender for the Most Improved Trophy.

A clear indicator of their progress is the significant increase in permits issued, reflecting not only an uplift in activity but also improved organisational capacity and member engagement. The quality of their events has also stepped up remarkably, with well-run, inclusive, and professionally delivered meets that have been well received by riders, and officials.

Importantly, the club has earned strong recognition for its work around the permitting process, fostering a collaborative relationship with officials and streamlining administration. Their proactive communication and attention to detail have stood out.

Through these combined efforts, the club has shown what focused improvement, and strong leadership can achieve in a short time, making the Ixion Motorcycle Club a deserving recipient of the Most Improved Trophy.

Administrator of the Year:
Rebecca Murray has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership in what has been a particularly challenging year, especially through her impactful work with the Women’s Commission.

Rebecca’s commitment to promoting and supporting women in motorcycling has been unwavering. Notably, she played a key role in increasing the Commission’s visibility and engagement, with a significant rise in Facebook following, helping to build a stronger, more connected community.

Rebecca also led the initiative to host a dedicated stand for Women in Sport at the Southern Motorcycle Show, providing vital outreach, raising awareness, and creating new opportunities for female participation in the sport.

Beyond her Commission work, they are a highly active and respected official—officiating at events, providing on-the-ground guidance to fellow officials, and always willing to offer advice and support where needed. Their presence brings confidence and stability to events, and their collaborative approach strengthens the wider motorcycling community.

Rebecca’s efforts have not only made a meaningful difference in 2024 but have laid the groundwork for long-term positive change—making her truly deserving nominee for the Administrator of the Year Trophy.

Brian Davidson Memorial Trophy for Innovation & Technology

This trophy is awarded each year by Neil Ritchie.

It was awarded to the South Waikato Motorcycle Club – more information to follow.

Special Mention:

Special mention of the Rotorua Motorcycle Club for their outstanding contribution and commitment during a particularly challenging period in the 2025 season.

When unforeseen circumstances threatened the continuity of the 2025 NZ Motocross Championship, the Rotorua Motorcycle Club selflessly stepped in to host an additional round, ensuring that the championship could proceed as planned. Taking on two rounds of a national championship is no small feat, and it undoubtedly placed extra pressure on their club, volunteers, and resources.

Despite the demands, Rotorua delivered both rounds with professionalism, dedication, and true community spirit. Their willingness to go above and beyond for the benefit of the wider sport does not go unnoticed, and we are immensely appreciative of their efforts.

Their actions exemplify the kind of support, resilience, and teamwork that keeps our sport strong.
